Porsche Pipes Go Natural

The Porsche Design philosophy places an emphasis on fundamentals, not decoration. Each object in the line is reduced to its essential function, resulting in a clear, linear shape, combining fine traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing technology.

Now Porsche Design has extended its innovative pipe designs, characterized by cooling ribbons built into the bowl, with a limited production release of natural briar wood versions that join the original black and titan pearl finishes. Due to the unique characteristics of briar wood, only a limited number of these natural finish pipes are being produced.

According to the manufacturer, the use of the finest briar-root wood makes a significant contribution to the overall flavor when smoking these pipes, while Porsche’s unique cooling rib design provides a cool smoking experience. Pipes are supplied with an acrylic mouthpiece and 9-mm absorbent filter and are individually numbered with the edition of the year, presented in a luxury gift box. All four of the Porsche Design pipe shapes are available in the new Nature finish.

MacBarren Rolls out HH Mature Virginia

HH Mature Virginia is the second blend to be released in MacBaren’s new HH series, launched in Summer 2006. A homage to MacBarren Tobacco founder Harald Halberg, the inspiration for this new series came from recipes developed around 1890.

HH Mature Virginia is described as a “back to nature” tobacco, typical of blends from that period of time. Its taste comes from the full and rich natural flavors of 15 different Virginia tobaccos, some selected to nearly eliminate tongue bite without compromising the leaf’s natural sweetness.

In all, 22 different tobaccos were used to create this blend including bright yellow/golden leaf, mature red/mahogany leaf, dark fired Virginia and a black Virginia Cavendish; a touch of Oriental; and finally pressed Burley to round out the flavor. This is the first MacBarren blend in over 100 years to use dark fired Virginia, adding a slightly smoky scent and note to the sweet Virginia taste when smoked.

HH Mature Virginia joins HH Vintage Syrian Latakia, the first blend in the series that was released last year. The blend is composed predominately of smooth yet powerful Latakia from Syria that contributes the overall smoky taste without any tongue bite. A mix of Virginia tobaccos from three continents add a sweet, natural taste while Turkish Oriental adds a spicy note to the blend. To complete the taste with depth and body, a little dark-fired Kentucky from the U.S.A. rounds out the blend. The blend is a loose cut tobacco, which guarantees a smooth and steady burn that does not get hot, meaning extremely little bite on the tongue.
