Tinned Premium Cigars Debut from Gurkha

Miami-based Beach Cigar Group’s Gurkha brand has entered the tinned premium cigar market with two new offerings. One features natural cigars; the other, new and unique flavored cigars - a first for Gurkha. Both new launches are presented in European-style hinged clamshell tins. The Big Gurkha Tins hold 10 3 1/4 x 24 cigars and retail at $11.95 per tin. The long-filler natural cigars are handmade in Nicaragua, and are available in five blends. Dark Blend #8 and Havana Select Blend #85 are maduros, while Classic Blend #44, Natural Light Blend #224, and Mild Light Blend #967 have natural wrappers.

The Little Gurkha Tins hold seven cigarillos in each pocket-sized tin, with 13 flavor choices, including the company’s popular Ancient Warrior cigar in natural Brazilian Wrapper. The other exotic flavors are Gurkha Classic Blend, Passion Mint, Cognac, Mango Cream, Orange Spice, Exotic Orient, Kiwi Vanilla, Tiramisu, Caffe Tobac, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Passion Fruit. The cigars are machine-made in Belgium and packaged in the Dominican Republic. Suggested retail is $6.50 per tin.

Gurkha Big and Small Tins are shipped in packages that open out into countertop displays, featuring familiar Gurkha graphics, and holding 10 each of four different cigars. In addition, the company will soon offer high-quality metal and Lucite small-footprint countertop displays.

Paired Maduro Joins Cusano 18 Cigar Line

Cusano Cigars has slowly increased production of its Cusano 18 Paired Maduro, a cigar previously produced in very limited quantity. The cigar “pairs” two popular Maduro wrappers - a Brazilian Mata Fina and a Connecticut Broadleaf, in a cigar described as medium-to full-bodied, and “rich” and “juicy” in flavor.

Both the Cusano 18 line and the new Cusano 18 Paired Maduro premium cigar lines are the result of over two years of blending and testing.

“The limited release was offered to existing customers only, and it has taken until now to fill those original orders,” says company head Michael Chiusano. “We are proud to now be able to make this fantastic cigar available to more people. There is nothing like it in the market; it is a ‘Must Try’ for every maduro smoker.”

La Perla Habana Cigars Adds Specialty Coffee

La Perla Habana Cigars is introducing a line of specialty coffee under the Black Pearl Gourmet Coffee label. “We have been encouraged by our retailers and their customers, and decided to offer coffee to all our shops.” reports Doug Wood, president of La Perla Habana. Black Pearl Coffee uses only fresh roasted 100% Arabica beans, which have greater flavor and aroma than commercially blended-canned coffees. Only 5% of Arabica beans worldwide are considered specialty grade. The coffee that Black Pearl uses comes from that 5% specialty grade.

The first of the new blends, “Rojo Roast,” is a tribute to the boutique brand’s Black Pearl Rojo (Red) cigar line. Rojo Roast is described as an intense blend characterized by rich flavor and aroma. “This dark roast is blended with beans from three continents,” Wood says, “including an Estate-grown Papua New Guinea coffee.”

Espresso Cubano pays homage to the original La Perla Habana cigar line first introduced ten years ago. Roasted medium-dark, this blend captures the spirit of Cuba during the 1940s and 1950s.

All coffee is vacuum-packed for freshness in 12-ounce bags and feature La Perla Habana’s familiar Black Pearl turn-of the century artwork.
