MERCHANDISE AND NEWS FROM THE PIPE WORLD

E-Star Pipe System, Ever-Wet Humidity Regulator Packets from Tsuge

Japanese pipe manufacturer Tsuge Pipe Company has introduced two new products, both of which set new performance standards.

The new E-Star Pipe System is a blend of 21st Century technology and materials, fused skillfully into styles and briars that reflect the Japan of old. The bowls are all made of dry-smoking and lightweight Corsican briar, and are available in light polish, dark polish, and carbon fiber finishes.

"Tsuge's E-Star Pipe System is set apart by its combination of unique filtration system; a long, lightweight titanium tube shank; and a replaceable long paper filter," says Philip Wynne, president of Felipe Gregorio Tobacco World, Inc., which distributes Tsuge pipes and pipe accessories exclusively in the U.S.

Ever-Wet is the trade name for a smart material that holds relative humidity almost constant in a closed space, regardless of temperature. The Tokyo National Research Institute of Cultural Properties developed the product to maintain a perfect environment for museum artifacts and priceless books. Ever-Wet packets can be placed in pocket tobacco pouches, bulk tobacco containers, cigar bags, and humidors. Ever-Wet is a harmless, naturally occurring clay with adsorptive properties. It adjusts humidity levels either up or down automatically, holding tobacco at a perfect 70% humidity level, even with temperature swings of 20 degrees F. Ever-Wet is packaged 100 packets to a container.

MacBaren Products Change Names for Compliance

In compliance with new legislation in the European Union prohibiting the use of the term "Mild" in the naming of tobacco products, MacBaren Pipe Tobacco has implemented a worldwide name change in some of its products. Scottish Mixture Mild is now known as Danish Mixture Modern and Mild Choice becomes Aromatic Choice.

"This is purely a name change as these are our more popular products, the company has advised. "No change has been made to the contents or quality of this product." MacBaren is the largest family owned tobacco company in Denmark.
