TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND INDUSTRY PROMOTIONS

Timber Wolf Moist Snuff Now in Peach

Following a successful consumer use test, Swedish Match North America will initiate a rollout of Timber Wolf Peach. The new product will be available at retail in all regions, except the West, in early September.

Timber Wolf Peach represents not only a new flavor for Timber Wolf, but also a new flavor for the entire moist snuff category. The Peach flavor augments the Timber Wolf product line, which currently includes seven popular varieties: Long Cut and Fine Cut Wintergreen, Long Cut and Fine Cut Natural, Long Cut Mint, Long Cut Straight, and Long Cut Cool Wintergreen.

"The response from our consumer test was very positive, and we are excited to extend the line with the introduction of Timber Wolf Peach," said Roy Reynolds, Brand Manager. "Timber Wolf Peach will add another dimension to the brand, complementing our traditional varieties and presenting consumers with a unique alternative."

Timber Wolf will support the rollout of peach with new packaging, direct and print advertising and point-of-sale.

Salomon en Cedro, New Limited Edition Size, Joins Perdomo's Edicion de Silvio Line

Tabacalera Perdomo, S.A. has announced it will add a new, highly limited size to its Edicion de Silvio, the ultra-premium cigar line commemorating the memory of Nick Perdomo's late grandfather, Silvio Perdomo. The Edicion de Silvio Salomon en Cedro debuted at the RTDA 2004 trade show in Las Vegas. One of the most intriguing and challenging cigar shapes ever created by Nick Perdomo, Jr., each Edicion de Silvio Salomon en Cedro (7 x 49 x 60) cigar is enveloped in a 120-year old Spanish cedar ribbon and placed in its own wax-sealed, aerated cigar 'vessel'. 24 cigar 'vessels' are then sealed and placed under lock and key within a rustic 'Spanish Galleon' tobacco chest. Production of the Edicion de Silvio Salomon en Cedro will be limited to 400 'chests'.

Recognized as 2004's "Best of the Best" by the Robb Report, Edicion de Silvio is comprised of a secretive blend of all-Cuban seed tobaccos that are cultivated, crafted and aged to perfection. In addition to the new size, Edicion de Silvio is made in three sizes packaged in 'Spanish Galleon' tobacco chests containing 50 cigars: Robusto (5 x 54), Double Corona (7 5/8 x 50), and No. 2 Torpedo (6 1/8 x 54).

Toraņo Cigars to Ship with Humidipaks

Toraņo Cigars has recently started shipping its cigar brands with Humidipak, the world's first two-way, humidity-control product. Sean Knutsen, chief executive officer of Humidipak, a Minnesota-based corporation which makes products designed to protect fine cigars, and Charlie Toraņo, vice president of Toraņo Cigars, announced their new contract at the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America (RTDA) trade show in Las Vegas this July.

"Toraņo is just the kind of progressive, quality-focused cigar manufacturer we have always thought was our primary market," said Mr. Knutsen. "As more and more manufacturers, retailers and consumers see how effectively Humidipak preserves the peak flavors and character of their favorite cigars, our product will become the 'must-have' feature of any high-quality cigar shipment."

"Control over shipping conditions and their impact on our product once it leaves our production facilities is a huge issue," Mr. Toraņo explained. "We want to do everything in our power to guarantee the quality of our family's hand-made cigars, and Humidipak is a major factor in our strategy." He estimates that the Humidipak-packed boxes will begin arriving at retailers in early fall.
