Villiger Stokkebye International Offers Display Pre-Packs

Villiger Stokkebye International (VSI) is offering two new display pre-packs to retailers. The first is the Villiger Export display unit, which comes with a header panel, 10 five-packs of Export cigars and two 25-count boxes of Export cigars. Designed to promote both single unit sales and five-pack sales, this great-looking display and two five-packs come free with the purchase of eight five-packs and two 25-count boxes while supplies last. The unit is also available in a Braniff Chicos configuration.

The second is the Villiger Pipe Cigar unit, which contains 150 individual-sale cigars in three popular flavors - Cherry, Honey, and Vanilla. Featuring Villiger’s unique flavor delivery tube, the Pipe Cigars offer the aromatic smoke of a pipe in a small cigar with a true leaf wrapper. New Copenhagen Long Cut Straight

U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) has launched Copenhagen Long Cut Straight, the newest product bearing the name of the oldest and best-selling brand of moist, smokeless tobacco. The new product, available at retail on February 27, joins the brand’s four other products: original Copenhagen snuff; regular Copenhagen Long Cut; Copenhagen Black, a bourbon-flavored mid-cut; and Copenhagen Pouches.

Jill K. Galowitz, USSTC vice president, marketing, states, “New Copenhagen Long Cut Straight combines the brand’s premium quality with a smooth, rich, straight taste for the first straight-tasting smokeless tobacco worthy of the legendary Copenhagen name.”

The launch will be supported by a major print advertising campaign, direct mail and high-impact point-of-sale materials that altogether will deliver more than 100 adult impressions.

Kretek Introduces Merci, New French-style Cigarettes

Merci is the new classic French-style cigarette produced by Kretek International. With the exodus from the U.S. Market of both Gauloises and Gitanes, this product is designed to fill the gap for discriminating adult smokers with a taste for the high-quality flue-cured tobacco in those popular French brands.

Merci is currently available in two styles: a full-flavor, flue-cured tobacco blend and a light blonde style. It will soon be available in a 72mm unfiltered variety for those who, in the past, favored Gitanes unfiltered full flavor cigarettes.

Camacho Coyolar: Named at Last

After over 1,200 entries in their Name the Camacho Cigar Contest, Camacho Cigars, Inc. has chosen the name of their new, extra-full-bodied cigar: Camacho Coyolar Puro. Among the responses to the company’s “Say Uncle” consumer promotion were many names that were already being discussed, but none that conveyed the cigar’s unique flavor as well as its strength.

The winning entry, from Rod Mitchell of Chicago, Illinois, pointed out the name “Coyolar” on the cigar band, which indicated the farm that produced the wrapper. The suggestion to name the cigar after the farm (“puro” indicates that all the tobacco in the cigar is grown in Honduras, where it is made) was the one that won over Camacho brand owners Christian Eiroa and his father Julio, who had long wanted to grow wrapper on the Coyolar farm. Camacho Coyolar Puro is available in five frontmarks: Perfecto #1 (4 1/2 x 50, MSRP $4.45 per cigar); Rothschild (4 1/2 x 50, $4.95); Torpedo (6 x 54, $5.95); Super Toro (6 1/2 x 52, $5.45); and Titan (6 x 60, $6.25).

Savinelli Rolls Out Nicaragua Special Edition

Following up the success of their Nicaragua Reserve line of cigars, Savinelli has introduced Savinelli Nicaragua Special Selection 2004, a limited-edition line of cigars featuring leaf set aside for an extra year of aging. Made by Tabacalera Oliva, the cigars have filler and binder from Nicaragua, topped off with a specially selected, silky Ecuadorian wrapper. The Special Selection 2004 is made in three sizes, all finished with figurado heads: Toro (6 x 52); Robusto (5 x 52); and Torpedo (6 1/2 x 54). They are described as medium to full in flavor and will be made available in limited quantities to Savinelli retailers.

Partagas and Punch get Tubed

General Cigar Co., Inc. is rolling out three individually tubed, highly portable frontmarks of two of its most popular cigar brands, Punch and Partagas.

Partagas welcomes the Padre to its lineup, measuring 6 x 50, and available at a suggested retail price of $6.00 per individually tubed cigar, or $120 for a box of 20. Meanwhile, a new-look Partagas Sabroso has also been unveiled, still bearing its original measurements (5 7/8 x 44) but packaged in a newly designed tube, $5.60 suggested retail, or $112 for a box of 20. The Partagas Spanish Rosado line also introduces a Sabroso frontmark, also tubed and at the same dimensions as its sister brand. The first tubo in the Spanish Rosado collection, it retails for $5.25 per cigar or $105 per 20-count box.

The Punch Gran Puro line also gets its first tubed offering, the 5 x 52 Libertad, $5.50 each or $110 per box of 20 tubos, suggested retail.
